Knitting Reference Library 1849 – 2012

Sometimes Facebook feeds you something amazing and, for me, a downloadable knitting reference library is amazing. The Knitting Reference Library is a University of Southampton archive, which “includes the published works collected by Montse Stanley, Richard Rutt and Jane Waller. These comprise books, exhibition catalogues, knitting patterns, journals and magazines.” Only parts of the library are currently digitised but those listed include many Victorian knitting manuals, with pleasing titles such as “Mrs Gauguin’s Knit Polka Book” and the one I intend to start with “The Andalusian Knitting and Netting Book by Mlle Riego”.

Text quoted above found on the Knitting Reference Library’s ‘About’ page. Original post found on Facebook as shared on Knowlio, who found the archive via Open Culture.
